Coffee is Dope: The Story of Black Owned Coffee Company Cxffeeblack

In the heart of Memphis, a movement is brewing–one that transcends the hipster culture and remote worker refuge. Cxffeeblack, co-founded by Maurice “Bartholomew Jones” and Renata Henderson, its more than just a coffee brand; it’s revolutionary! This is a Black-owned coffee business leading the reclamation of our African roots in coffee and redefining its narrative.

Coffee’s origin itself can be traced back to Ethiopia and a dark past in the states intertwined in colonialism. Cxffeeblack seeks to honor its African roots while also addressing the lack of representation in the coffee industry. Through the dope Anti-Gentrification Coffee Club, the founders have created a space that celebrates Black empowerment, dignity, and community.

Their journey has taken them to the motherland to the country of Ethiopia, where they connected with coffee farmers and explored further the significance of coffee. This experience inspired their award-winning documentary, “Cxffeeblack to Africa”, which highlights the rich history and traditions of coffee in its birthplace.

Cxffeeblack’s mission extends beyond coffee sales. The goal is to keep the supply chain BLACK, ensuring their signature roast, “Guji Mane”, supports the people where it is grown. Additionally, initiatives like the Barista Exchange aim to bridge the gap between Africans and African-American coffee professionals.

That’s why Cxffeeblack is Dope! It’s not just about coffee; it’s about reclaiming legacy, fostering community, and utilizing coffee as a symbol of unity and power.
