(DopeTV Staff) John Singleton, has given us a glimpse of what life was like in South Central, LA in the early 90’s. Singletons iconinc movies inlcude ‘Boyz In The Hood’ , ‘Poetic Justice’  , ‘Baby Boy’ and ‘Higher Learning’ to name a few.

“John passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family and friends,” Singleton’s family said. “We want to thank the amazing doctors at Cedars-Sinai Hospital for their expert care and kindness and we again want thank all of John’s fans, friends and colleagues for all of the love and support they showed him during this difficult time.”
In 1992, at the age of 24, Singleton became the youngest person to ever receive an Oscar nomination for best director for “Boyz n the Hood,” a film based on his experiences growing up in South Central Los Angeles. Singleton was the first African American to be nominated in that category.
Singleton’s genius brought many new faces to Hollywood and were either discovered on set first time acting role. Notable actors and actresses include, Angela Bassett, Tupac, Omar Epps, Janet Jackson, Regina King, Ice Cube, Larry Fishburne, Morris Chestnut, Tyrese, Cuba Gooding Jr and Taraji P. Henson.
Rest In Power to the great John Singleton his legacy will forever live on through his iconic films.
